Confessions of a Christian girl: Lost and found by Sarah Jakes (Review)

When my roommate saw me reading this book, I was immediately asked what could I possibly learn from a girl who had no real problems….😒 I didn’t bother to look up because I was already 4 chapters deep & they had no Godly idea what they’re talking about….
It’s New Year’s eve service:
The praise & worship is going on, I’m listening to the “You made it through message” I’m hearing shouting, declarations & decrees about how great this upcoming year is going to be. People are dancing out of their suits and I couldn’t help but think to myself “We said that last year”. #Boop So much happened in the unspoken year of 2014 I didn’t want to allow myself to feel any form of expectation for fear of disappointment…again. Sometimes you’re just tapped out beyond explanation.

After spending all night reading this book,(it’s roughly about 5:30am) & I can’t help but to be in deep thought over the words my eyes just laid hold of…It couldn’t better timing. I started “Lost & Found” on the 1st & it’s amazing because the underlying tone throughout the entire book is simple “His Grace is sufficient enough”. This book for the church girl at heart. It’s hard to communicate the constant battle between not able to fit into the world but not being able to fit into church.

The book is so full & will leave you full. Well done @sarahdjakes

Complete & Divine of Obedience Part 1

Does anyone remember this throwback video from this TBN Praise the Lord program??? Yolanda Adams was hosting and invited Mary Mary, J. Moss, Lisa McClendon and Israel Houghton. I watched the original airing of this video forever ago but ran across again today! How timely! I just HAD to share this.

Why did I do it?

Sometimes you feel as though that when God speaks to YOU, someone else should confirm immediately. I found myself in a situation, where my back was up against a wall and I had to make a decision because I was so busy being concerned with “moving to the next level”,”making moves” and wanting to do “something different”, I felt that perhaps this GOOD thing was a GOD thing because I was use to so many bad things happening to me (I’ll blog about THAT later).  A particular door was open. Everyone thought it was a GREAT idea…everyone except me. I prayed about it, thought about, the door remained open, I expressed my anxiety about entering the door. There was no direct “no” from mentors and those I go over my spiritual dealings with, so I thought “Hey, if they don’t see it” then maybe, just maybe I’m trippin’! It didn’t dawn on me until later, that familiarity works both ways. For example, Jesus said a prophet does not receive honor in his own home. It’s because of familiarity. We can get use to things happening one way that we fail to seek God for the next set directions once we embark on a new path. The opposite side of familiarity can be seen in the life of Rahab. No one thought that Holy men of God would be hiding in this prostitute’s house. Now, it worked to Joshua and Caleb’s benefit and Rahab ended up in the genealogy of Christ. It was because familiarity was abandoned.

I get frantic. I get hazed. I get a little dramatic even. I’m always cautious about every single door, window, step because the decision(s) we can make today can affect our tomorrow(s). There is not always time to express the reason behind my caution with every major decision. So I can understand being seen in a particular light. It was automatically assumed, that it was fear that fueled my hesitation. Perhaps they were right but reader, let me say THIS to you: You can absolutely be in the house of God & still get lost. Not all good things are God things. How I wish I would’ve followed what I knew in my hearts of hearts to NOT have taken that door. Every time something goes wrong, there’s a delay, or a setback, I can’t help but quietly think “If I’d never taken that path, this, this and that wouldn’t be happening”.

My story is not complete. Perhaps I’ll have a different perspective on it 5,6,7 months from now. I do know this: It’s never too late, even if you make a bad decision, remember what God has spoken to YOU. Repent, realign yourself with destiny, purpose, stay in compliance & obedience. Get back on track. God is a God of redemption and my soul knows it. Until next time! XOXO

What I’m listening to: Sitting With Me-MaryMary

Here are the lyrics:

“Sitting With Me”

They say, there she goes
That ol’ holy roller
Think she’s special, someone needs to tell her
That she ain’t no better than me
They say, she’s such a geek
That ol’ Jesus freak
Every-time she opens up her mouth to speak
She’s always talkin’ bout being saved and holy
That was me, Miss unpopular
Never asked to be part of the in crowd
But everyone knew who I was
Cause my life screamed Jesus, out loud!
Yeah, I’ve been left out, looked over
Just for carrying this cross on my shoulder
But it’s okay, with me
If I’m the last one that’s picked for the team
I’ll sit on the sideline
As long as he’s sitting with me
They said he wasn’t ordinary
Cause he wanted to be married
Before he let himself be with someone else
Even said he was unnatural
But what they didn’t see, didn’t see that he
He was much more man
Than they’d ever be
Cause he was a man of integrity
Just like me, he was Mister unpopular
Never asked to part of the in crowd
Everyone knew who he was
Cause his life screamed Jesus out loud!
Yeah, I’ve been left out, looked over
Just for carrying this cross on my shoulder
But it’s okay, with me
If I’m the last one that’s picked for the team
I’ll sit on the sideline
As long as he’s sitting with meI know someday I’ll shine
I’ll wait till it’s my time
But I won’t move
I’ll sit with youYeah, I’ve been left out, looked over
Just for carrying this cross on my shoulder
But it’s okay, with me
If I’m the last one that’s picked for the team
I’ll sit on the sideline
As long as he’s sitting with me
Left out, looked over
Just for carrying this cross on my shoulder
But it’s okay, with me
It’s okay, with me
I’ll sit on the sideline
As long as he’s sitting with me

Where was THIS song in middle school & high school. Geesh! Still love it though 🙂

What I’m listening to: Unstoppable Love

Here are the lyrics:

Try to stop Your love and You would wage a war
Try to take the very thing You gave Your life for
You would come running
Tear down every wall
All the while You’re shouting
“My Love, you’re worth it all”.

God you pursue me with power and glory
Unstoppable Love that never ends
You’re unrelenting with passion and mercy
Unstoppable Love that never ends

You broke into the silence and sang your song of hope
A melody resounding in the deep of my soul
You have come running
You tore down every wall
All the while you’re shouting,
“My Love you’re worth it all”

God you pursue me with power and glory
Unstoppable Love that never ends
You’re unrelenting with passion and mercy
Unstoppable Love that never ends

God you pursue me with power and glory
Unstoppable Love that never ends
You’re unrelenting with passion and mercy
Unstoppable Love that never ends

No sin, no shame,
No past, no pain
Can separate me from Your love
No height, no depth,
No fear, no debt
Can separate me from Your love

No sin, no shame,
No past, no pain
Can separate me from Your love
No height, no depth,
No fear, no debt
Can separate me from Your love

Whoa
Your love, yeah

God you pursue me with power and glory
Unstoppable Love that never ends
You’re unrelenting with passion and mercy
Unstoppable Love that never ends

Try to stop Your love and You would wage a war

I hope you enjoy this song as much I do. I heard it for the first time 3 days ago & It’s already apart of my prayer.

Happy National Day of Prayer!

prayer

Why YES! This is a REAL holiday for us Christians 🙂  Take this day and put down every selfish prayer point & pray for this great nation of America. “ If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under.”-President Ronald Regan. Yep. Even Prez Reg said it. We can’t afford to sit back & let America go down in flames. Yes. We do suck at times but let’s not be foolish & forget what morals & values this nation was built one. You can change the outside of the house & maybe in the interior but the foundation will always remain. So pray. Pray for our president, that the mind of God will be downloaded and Godly wisdom will be executed. Pray for the rumors of war against America to be settled. Pray for the birthright of America to be restored and even if there a few percentage of people in this nation that serves the only one true and living God, let mercy triumph of judgment. By led by the Spirit of God when praying. America needs it. God will use our prayers. XOXO

7 Things I learned in 7 minutes from Sarah Jakes

20140416-173018.jpg

Yep. Y’all know I was late the book signing with Sarah Jakes at Bus Boys & Poets. I literally came near the end. I almost didn’t go. My hair was crazy, I fought through DC traffic, couldn’t find a parking space to save my life. But boy, I’m I glad that I did. Since, I was like literally the last person to get her book signed, I thought “Well, might as well ask my question…”. I like Sarah Jakes because she’s relatable. There’s something about her that’s very “sister-girl”. She’s not trying to be perfect, in fact she’s trying to embrace her imperfection. I think that alone opens the door for dialogue. Here’s what I learned, as she briefly recited her journey to where is now and where she’s going:

1. There were so many things on my record that made me feel not like I was not inspirational.

2. Rest in who you are, it’s worth it.

3.Don’t allow people to define you.

4. Give yourself room to get it wrong.

5. Choose to be transparent. We’re all flawed in someway.

6. When I told my parents I was pregnant, they grieved who I thought I would become but this was my path.

7. For a long time, I saw myself through the eyes of mistakes & it held back me from so much.

Really brief today 🙂 XOXO
